The best for a big man.I bought this for someone who is quite large (6'5" and about 500lbs). As others have noted, this is a LARGE toilet seat and it's quite heavy. Thankfully the lid is a lighter plastic than the actual seat or it would be totally unwieldy. I would definitely suggest that the manufacturer put some additional photos of their products in their listing... primarily an image or 2 of the seat installed on a regular toilet. I read the dimensions and knew it was going to be considerably larger than a normal seat and I have no problems with that. But I think it would help customers to get a visual of how it'll look in their space so they can make an informed decision. Although in and of itself there's absolutely nothing wrong with it (in fact, the curves in the seat are actually quite attractive), the sheer size of it on top of a standard toilet isn't terribly attractive in the conventional sense. If they don't add photos here,I would very highly suggest doing an image search online BEFORE ordering the product so you understand how it's going to look! It's pretty easy to install. My only complaint in putting it on the toilet is the heavy stainless steel hinges that you put through the back to hold the seat and the cover together and then down through the holes in the base of the toilet don't stay in place as you're trying to lower the seat onto the toilet. As I got one side into the hole in the toilet base, the seat was at an angle and the other hinge slipped out and fell into the toilet with a clang so loud I thought for sure it had chipped the porcelain. Thankfully it didn't!The person I got it for said it was very comfortable and, especially since he's so tall, he absolutely loves that it adds another 2 inches to the toilet height. I've never actually purchased an open-front seat, but for some reason thought that design might be more comfortable for him. Unfortunately I had to uninstall it and return it to Amazon because after putting it on, I realized that with the seat height being about 2 inches tall and it being the open-front style, that means there's quite a sizable gap both in width AND height in the front where (sorry to be gross, but there's no delicate way to phrase this), if the user had diarrhea or something, there's a very good chance they're gonna have a mess to clean up. It's not necessarily a design flaw on the part of the manufacturer (and therefore I'm not knocking off any stars) because I'm sure there's a good reason why one would prefer the open front design over the full round, so they're just fulfilling that need. But once I saw it in place, I just foresaw disaster having such a huge opening in the front of a toilet seat.Aside from that, it seemed very sturdy and high-quality. Even though I returned that model, I immediately came on Amazon to order the full round version and I'm sure the recipient will be very happy with it.I have a regular size toilet and it is too low for me, so the 2.5 inch additional height intrigued me. Also for it to not move around interested me too, since the cheap one my landlord put on mine was already moving around after a month's use, plus I usually end up having this problem. This seat does not move. The first time I sat on this toilet I had to try to relax and remind myself I was sitting on a toilet and not a chair in order to go, since it felt so much like a chair. I asked a lot of questions, watched every video I could find before purchasing this because I was concerned about the opening and getting pinched, and is the opening really necessary for females. I do not see any problem with the pinching happening, unless things will be different after having this for a while. I was leaning towards the one with no front opening because it looked better to me. I decided on the front opening just because it seemed like it would be better to get my business done. There really is a lot of room for wiping for a female. I must say Amazon reviewers are the best. I had a lot of people answer my questions for me but I contacted the Big John's company through their website and DID NOT hear a word from them.I really wanted to like this toilet seat, but after a few days I just can't. I am almost 6 feet tall, have a 36inch inseam, and I am bottom heavy ... so I don't know if any of those attributes make a difference or not. I wish it would sit a little higher in the back, it seems like the sides sit higher than the back. It is quite painful for me on the back of my legs. I think it kind of S-P-R-E-A-D-S everything apart too far, and makes things uncomfortable for me also, and I don't know if the sides are a contributing factor with this or not. I wanted the lid for the toilet seat, but the top of the rim's edge will dig into my back if I lean back onto it. I think if they ever redesign this, they should leave this smooth without the rim. This all could be a problem for me too since I don't weigh anything close to 1200#, since that is the weight capacity on it. I wish they would make a toilet seat like this version but for someone about 1/3 or maybe even 1/2 of that weight, which would make it smaller, and more shapely, with the rubber grip on the bottom and the 2 1/2" rise. One of my rubber grips wasn't in totally like the other one was and I was concerned about it, but I have not noticed any issues regarding this. When I put the toilet seat on, the rubber bumpers would not sit totally flat on the toilet bowl and I could not screw the metal flanges up any higher to get it to TOTALLY be flat against the bowl. I'm talking less than 1/16 of an inch towards the back (closer to the tank) though, but still it wasn't flat like the video I saw. I have not noticed any issue regarding this either. My instructions show that there was suppose to be a L and a R on the hinges to decipher which one was which, but mine only came with an L and R on the plastic bag, so make sure you take note of this before taking everything out of the bags and not knowing which is which. This is big and heavy like others have said, and will be embarrassed whenever I have anyone use my bathroom. I was also concerned about it coming in a box that had Big John's toilet seat all over it. Thankfully it did not and just had Amazon as the return address.I will give it a little more time before I decide what I am going to do.I think I've written three reviews in my life. But as the spouse of a big, disabled guy, I have to spread the word about this throne. If you're looking for solutions to challenges in this area, buy this thing. Right now. It took me five minutes to install, with no tools, DH loves it, and I don't fall into it, as I feared I might. The design is perfect for the issues bigger people can have, including mobility. It does look a bit silly (it IS big), but it's beyond worth it. My only regret is not buying it sooner. AND - if there's a problem, the company will solve it ASAP. My first Big John came without the hardware. The response was immediate and courteous. This is a product that will immediately improve the life of not just the person who needed it, but anyone who cares for them.I don’t have mobility issues, but I am obese. I purchased the Big John for comfort. As a total klutz, I found it easy to install. The metal hinges are adjustable to exactly fit your toilet, which after reading some of these reviews, is a feature that I believe some people haven’t understood. It’s very comfy, and because it gives me so much room to sit, it’s also very hygienic. I prefer the open front because that design means I have even more room. I would imagine that men might appreciate the extra room that the open design affords when they sit on the seat. My old apartment toilet is low, so the extra height this seat provides is much appreciated. Aesthetically, it looks like a plain, oversized toilet seat. That doesn’t bother me at all, but might annoy anyone into more fashionable toilet seats and interior design. I’ve only been living with it for a few days, but can already tell that it’s sturdily built. I love it!Very disappointed as it did not fit our toilet. By the time we tried it after our move, was to late to return
